The IRL Dashboard

A single-screen control panel for IRL streaming that runs on the router in your backpack. It handles SRTLA modem bonding, cameras, the Director Mini, publishing, GPS, weather, chat and a live-overlay designer, all from one page you can pull up on your phone mid-stream. It works without a laptop and keeps working on cellular.

It is built for the GL.iNet Mudi 7 (GL-E5800). The dashboard runs on any OpenWRT or GL.iNet router, but the bonding sender is built for the Mudi 7.

Getting it

The dashboard is invite only. Each invitation is personal and allows a limited number of installs, and your invite page shows the exact details you need. To ask for one, see the IRL Dashboard page. The invitation address is only for invitations: questions go to the community.

Install from the router's dashboard

No terminal needed — it all happens in the router's own admin page.

If the router offers a firmware update, install that first and let it reboot before you start.

  1. On the router's Wi-Fi, open http://192.168.8.1 and sign in.
  2. Go to APPLICATIONS → Plug-ins, then open Manage Sources (also called Add Custom Software Source).
  3. Enter the name streamhelpers and the address on your invite page (it looks like https://streamhelpers.com/irl-dashboard/feed/YOUR-TOKEN), then press the + (plus) button and Save.
  4. Back on Plug-ins, press Update (or Refresh) to reload the list, search for streamhelpers-dashboard and press Install. It will quickly say Installation succeeded, but the dashboard keeps setting itself up in the background — wait a few minutes (the first install can take up to about 5 minutes).
  5. Open http://streamhelpers.lan/ or http://192.168.8.1/streaming/.

The custom source carries your personal invite token. The same link also works again if you ever need to reinstall, and the dashboard rebuilds itself after a router firmware upgrade — see when an update or a router goes wrong.

Having trouble, or prefer the command line?

If the firmware refuses the source with a signature error, turn off the signature check for custom sources in Plug-ins if that option is shown — or just use the one-line command instead: SSH into the router and paste the wget … | sh command from your invite page. It installs exactly the same thing.

After the install, wait a couple of minutes, then open http://streamhelpers.lan/ (or http://YOUR-ROUTER-IP/streaming/). If it doesn't load on the first try, give it another minute and refresh — that's normal on the first install. The first visit opens Set up your stream, a short guided setup; after that, Settings holds everything. Fill in what you use and press Save. Every setting is optional: a tab you leave unconfigured simply doesn't appear.

The tabs

The tabs are icons along the top; hold a finger or the mouse on one to see its name. Most carry a small coloured dot (green is fine, amber wants a look, red needs you) and some a live figure. A tab only appears once the thing it controls is set up in Settings, so your row may be much shorter than this list.

Tab What it is for Guide
Stream status (play) The guided start and stop screen. It checks each part of the path, says what needs attention, and resets things for the next stream. Stop stream ends the stream everywhere and saves a record of it to Past streams. Going live
Macros (lightning bolt) Quick commands for the busy moments, by tap, typing or voice: hide every overlay and bring them back, BRB and back, play a clip, time the line you are in, start and stop a poll, a closest guess or the emoji meter, with the results big the moment you stop. Your own macros too. The Companion app has the same on its Quick commands screen. Macros and Quick commands
Chat (speech bubble) Pro Chat: every platform's chat in one list, to read while live. Feature a message on stream, chat alerts, and the Look button. The tab appears once Pro multi-platform chat is on in Settings. Pro Chat
Overlay control (layers) Every overlay on one page: switch each on or off while live, copy its browser-source address, design your own. Overlay control, overlay reference
OBS (sliders) Scenes, audio, sources and start/stop in OBS Studio, when OBS is part of your setup. Publishing
Router (network) Connections, signal, cell scanning and band locking, and venue Wi-Fi. Router and bonding
Bonding (merging arrows) SRTLA bonding of every modem, tethered phone and Wi-Fi uplink, link by link. The far end is your receiver. With bonding switched off in Settings the same icon is Stream Input, which just lists the addresses your camera can publish to. Router and bonding
Director Mini (clapperboard) A Magewell Director Mini: Program preview, scenes, graphics, stream targets, temperature and battery. Cameras
Companion (Android) Phones as cameras, a director that mixes the show, extra bonded links and GPS. Companion app help
DJI, SJCAM, Phone (camera icons) Connect and control the camera you have, or stream from a phone app straight into the router. Cameras
Restreamer (diagram) Your own receiver's Restreamer: destinations, their health, live ingest figures and the preview. Publishing
Restream.io (share) Go live through Restream.io, and its audience numbers (viewers now, peak, views, chat) for you, the header and an overlay. Publishing
(your own label) An optional extra tab that shows a page of your choice. Cameras
GPS (pin) Position from a USB GPS, the router or a phone; map, track, distance, sending your position, the location overlays and, with Pro, Motion & g-force. GPS and weather
Weather, Clock, Timer Conditions and forecast, the time, and countdown or count-up timers, each with its overlay. GPS and weather
Theme parks (ticket) Live ride wait times, show times and dining for the park you are in. GPS and weather
Trivia, Polls, Jokes Audience games played in chat: AI-written trivia, polls, a closest guess game, an emoji applause meter, jokes, and What am I looking at?, which asks your AI about what the camera sees. Audience games
Links (chain) Your own one-tap buttons. Settings
Diagnostics (stethoscope) What the router sees, logs and checks, and Ask AI to explain a problem. Diagnostics
StreamHelpers Pro (crown) Pair this router with your Pro account. StreamHelpers Pro
Settings (gear) Everything you set up once, the setup guide, system update and backups. Settings

Across the top of every tab is the header: a row of small chips you choose (bonding bitrate, battery, viewers, alerts and many more). See The header.

Why two publishing tabs? Restreamer is your own media server; Restream.io is a separate hosted distribution service. They can work together, but neither is always required. See Restreamer vs Restream.io: do I need both?.

A word with a dotted underline explains itself: tap it, or rest the mouse on it, for a short note on what it means (RSRP, SRT, HEVC, bitrate and so on), and tap again or anywhere else to close it.

Each tab is a list of cards. The first time you open a tab on a phone or computer, its cards are folded to their titles, so the whole tab fits on the screen and the titles work as a menu; most titles carry a small coloured pill that says how that part is doing. Tap a title to open it. The dashboard remembers what you open and fold, tab by tab, on that device. A few cards start open because they answer the main question at a glance: the Router tab's WiFi, repeater & radios box and the Bonding tab's health card (both can be folded), and the DJI tab's Bluetooth control and the Go Live card with Stop stream (always open).

StreamHelpers Pro

The dashboard is free. StreamHelpers Pro is an optional subscription that adds Pro Chat, the public Live Map, overlays without the StreamHelpers.com mark, Motion & g-force, and the Companion's Pro layouts and talkback. See StreamHelpers Pro and what each Pro feature does.
